We and our Food systems—from our Health to our Minds

The Role of Indigenous Knowledge

Yes, Indigenous wisdom or traditional knowledge is the outcome of hundreds of years of experience, gained through different practices in different periods. The production system they fabricated evolved in tune with nature and paralleled the normal flow of nature.

The more intensely we deviate from the tone of nature, the more we have to provide inputs to a production system; almost all inputs have environmental costs. The environment and the welfare of livestock and plants are compromised in such a production system (industrial farming). Such compromised systems exert pressure on the normal physiology of plants and animals, igniting stress hormones that ultimately affect consumers (humans and animals).

In my philosophy, we are absorbing/attaining stress from our food systems through food. For treatment, to settle this stress, we always need medical support, which exerts more stress on our normal body functioning. Besides having all the facilities in life, we are passing through the most stressful era of human history, put simply, we are living in a stress machine.
