Public opinion on GMOs in Europe

GMO is a burning issue. The future of our planet earth and its inhabitants are very much linked with this issue.

At the Texan academic publisher Landes Bioscience, Nilsy Desaint and Mariana Varbanova tell us about ways to learn how people in Europe feel about genetically modified (GM, genetically engineered, GE) crops.

You can read the abstract of their report here and if you want the whole text, you can buy it. I didn’t buy it but from the abstract, I see that they find polling for opinions about GM to be a misleading ‘blunt instrument’.

‘People recurrently admit they lack information on the technology behind GM food,’ say these authors. I’ve mentioned before that, in my opinion, to think about GM only in terms of food safety is to miss most of the important issues.
